Frequently Asked Questions

This page is here to help you prepare for your tattoo appointment at In Katharsis.

Each artist within the studio works independently and may have their own booking process, pricing and availability. These FAQs outline the general expectations of the space so clients can feel informed, prepared and comfortable before booking.

How do I book a tattoo?

Tattoo bookings are made through the correct booking form or booking link for the artist you would like to work with.

Each artist at In Katharsis works independently and manages their own bookings, availability, pricing, designs and communication.

We do not take tattoo bookings through DM, as booking forms keep all important information together and allow each artist to properly review your request.

Once your form has been submitted, please allow time for a reply. We appreciate your patience.

Do all artists at In Katharsis have the same booking process?

Each artist works independently, so booking processes may vary slightly between artists.

Please use the correct booking form or booking link for the artist you would like to work with. Your chosen artist will guide you through their own process, availability, pricing and appointment details.

Can I choose which artist tattoos me?

Yes. You are welcome to choose the artist whose work feels most suited to your tattoo idea.

Each artist has their own style, process and way of working, so we encourage you to look through their work before submitting a request.

Can I get a quote over messenger?

Quotes are not given through messenger.

The best way to request a quote is to complete the booking form for your chosen artist and mention that you are only wanting a quote at this stage.

Please include as much detail as possible, including your idea, placement, approximate size, style, reference images, budget and any other important information.

Some tattoo ideas may need a consultation before an accurate quote or session plan can be given, especially if the piece is larger, more detailed, or needs to be discussed properly first.

All tattoo enquiries are encouraged to go through the booking form so everything stays organised in one place and your artist has the information they need to respond clearly.

Do the artists share the same prices?

Not necessarily.

Each artist sets their own pricing, session structure and deposit requirements. Your artist will confirm all pricing with you before your appointment is secured.

Do you take walk-ins?

No. In Katharsis is a private, appointment-only studio.

This allows the space to stay calm, focused and respectful for each client. It also means each artist can give proper time and attention to the tattoo they are working on, without the pressure of walk-ins or interruptions.

Do I need to pay a deposit?

Yes. A non-refundable deposit is required to secure your tattoo appointment.

Deposit amounts may vary depending on the artist, the size of the tattoo, the session length and the booking required.

Your artist will confirm the deposit amount and payment details when your appointment is offered.

Deposits come off the final price of your tattoo or the last session of a larger piece.

Your appointment is not secured until your deposit has been paid.

Can I reschedule my appointment?

Yes, appointments can usually be rescheduled with at least 72 hours’ notice.

If enough notice is given, your deposit may be transferred to your new appointment time.

Short-notice changes, cancellations or failure to attend may result in your deposit being forfeited, as that time has been held specifically for you.

What if my artist needs to reschedule?

If your artist needs to reschedule due to illness or unavoidable circumstances, they will contact you as soon as possible.

A new appointment time will be arranged with you directly.

What if I’m late or don’t show up?

Please contact your artist as soon as possible if you are running late.

If you are more than 15 minutes late without contact, your appointment may be cancelled and your deposit forfeited.

No-shows are taken seriously and may affect your ability to book again in the future.

Please respect your artist’s time, preparation and schedule.

Do you tattoo under 18s with parental consent?

No. You must be 18 years or older to be tattooed at In Katharsis, even with parental consent.

How do I pay for my tattoo?

Payment options may vary depending on the artist.

Your artist will let you know their preferred payment method before or at your appointment.

Cash, bank transfer or card payment may be available, depending on the artist. Card payments may incur a processing fee.

Do I need to bring ID?

Yes. Valid photo ID is required for all tattoo appointments.

If you do not bring ID, your appointment may need to be rescheduled and a new deposit may be required.

What happens if I don’t bring ID with me?

Your appointment will not be able to go ahead without valid photo ID.

Your appointment may need to be rescheduled, and a new deposit may be required.

Can I bring someone with me?

In Katharsis is a calm, private studio, and appointments are usually one-on-one.

Please do not bring guests unless this has been arranged with your artist beforehand.

This helps keep the space focused, comfortable and respectful for everyone working and being tattooed.

Can I send reference images?

Yes. Reference images are helpful and can show the style, feeling, placement, detail or direction you are drawn to.

The booking form for your chosen artist will ask for reference images, along with other important information about your tattoo idea.

Your tattoo will not be directly copied, but references help your artist understand the kind of design you are wanting.

Do you copy other tattoo artists’ work?

No. We do not directly copy another tattoo artist’s design.

Reference images can be used for inspiration, but your tattoo will be created in a way that suits you, your body, the placement and the artist’s own style.

Will my design be shown before the appointment?

This depends on the artist and the type of tattoo being created.

In many cases, designs are shown at the appointment unless your artist has arranged otherwise.

Small changes can usually be made on the day. Larger changes may require extra time, a new appointment or a new deposit.

Can I change my design on the day?

Small changes can usually be made on the day, depending on the design and the time available.

If you want to change the idea completely, your appointment may need to be rescheduled and a new deposit may be required.

Clear communication before your appointment helps your artist prepare properly and gives you the best outcome.

Do you do cover-ups or reworks?

Cover-ups and reworks are considered case by case.

Not every tattoo can be covered or reworked in the way a client may hope, so an in-person consultation may be needed before confirming the booking.

Your artist will be honest with you about what is realistic, what may work best, and whether your idea is suitable.

Can I get tattooed over scars?

Sometimes, yes.

Scar tissue needs to be fully healed and settled before it can be tattooed. This is assessed case by case and may require an in-person consultation.

Do you tattoo fingers, hands, necks or faces?

Visible placements such as fingers, hands, necks and faces are considered case by case.

These areas can heal differently, fade faster and may not be suitable for every client or design.

Your artist will let you know whether the placement is suitable.

Do you offer fine line tattoos?

Fine line tattoos may be available depending on the artist and the design.

Your artist will let you know what will work best for the placement, size and long-term healing of the tattoo.

Can I use numbing cream?

Please speak with your artist before using numbing cream.

Not all artists recommend it, and some products can affect the skin, stencil, tattoo process or healing.

Your artist may be able to offer advice on what will work best for your tattoo and how to apply it correctly if numbing cream is suitable.

In all cases, we suggest doing a test patch before your appointment, as some people may have allergic reactions or sensitivities to numbing products.

If numbing cream is used without speaking to your artist first, your appointment may not be able to go ahead.

Can I get tattooed if I’m unwell?

No. Please reschedule if you are unwell, have a fever, infection, contagious illness, or if your body is feeling run down.

Being tattooed while unwell can affect your body, your healing and the tattoo process.

Can I get tattooed if I’m on medication or have a medical condition?

Some medications and medical conditions can affect tattooing and healing.

Please let your artist know before booking if you are on blood thinners, antibiotics, acne medication, immune-suppressing medication, or if you have a medical condition that may affect healing.

Your artist may ask for more information before confirming whether it is safe to go ahead.

Can I get tattooed while pregnant or breastfeeding?

No. We do not tattoo anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding.

Your body is already doing a lot, and your immune system and healing response may be affected. It is safest to wait until after this stage has passed.

What should I do before my tattoo appointment?

Please arrive well-rested, hydrated and make sure you have eaten within two hours of your appointment.

Avoid alcohol, drugs and anything that may thin your blood or affect how your body responds to being tattooed.

Good preparation helps your body cope better during the session and supports a smoother tattoo experience.

Can I eat or drink before my tattoo?

Yes. Eating before your tattoo is important.

Please do not arrive on an empty stomach. This can make you feel light-headed, shaky or unwell during the session.

For longer appointments, you are welcome to bring water, a sugary drink, snacks or a packed lunch.

What should I wear to my appointment?

Wear comfortable clothing that gives easy access to the area being tattooed.

Avoid tight, restrictive, white or expensive clothing. Ink, stencil and other products can sometimes mark clothing, so please dress with this in mind.

Loose, comfortable clothing is best.

Can I bring headphones?

Yes. You are welcome to bring headphones, music, a podcast or anything that helps you feel calm and settled.

Please make sure you can still communicate with your artist when needed and remain still during the tattoo.

Can I take photos or videos during my session?

Please ask your artist before taking photos or videos.

Filming during the tattoo process is not always suitable, as it can be distracting and may affect the focus of the appointment.

Your artist may take a photo of the finished tattoo once the session is complete.

Can I go swimming after my tattoo?

No. Swimming should be avoided until your tattoo is fully healed.

This includes pools, spas, saunas, oceans, rivers, lakes and long baths.

Stick to quick showers and gently pat the area dry. If you have a holiday or swimming plans coming up, it is best to book your tattoo after, not before.

Can I go to the gym after my tattoo?

It is best to take a short break from the gym after getting tattooed.

Avoid sweating, friction, tight clothing and heavy movement around the tattooed area for the first few days.

A little time off is worth it to protect your tattoo and allow your body to focus on healing.

Will fake tan affect my tattoo?

Yes. Fake tan can affect the tattoo process.

It can interfere with stencil placement, skin preparation and how the tattoo heals.

Please remove fake tan at least 48 hours before your appointment. Clean, natural, hydrated skin is the best canvas for tattooing.

How do I care for my tattoo?

Your artist will give you aftercare instructions at your appointment.

Please follow the advice carefully. Healing is part of the tattoo process, and how you care for your tattoo will affect the final result.

If you are unsure about anything during healing, contact your artist for guidance.

Do you offer touch-ups?

Touch-ups may be offered where needed, depending on the tattoo and how it has healed.

This is assessed by the artist who did the tattoo.

Touch-ups generally apply to tattoos that have healed naturally and have been cared for properly. If healing has been affected by picking, swimming too early, sun exposure, poor aftercare or lifestyle factors, standard rates may apply.

I have a tattoo done somewhere else and I am concerned about it. Can I ask you for advice?

Yes, you are welcome to reach out.

Whether it is healing advice, irritation, or something does not feel right, we can offer general guidance or suggest the best next step.

There is no judgement. We care about people feeling safe, informed and supported.

Do you sell tattoo aftercare products?

Selected tattoo aftercare products may be available in the studio.

Your artist will let you know what they recommend for your tattoo and healing process.

Do you offer gift vouchers?

Gift vouchers may be available depending on the artist.

Please contact the artist directly before purchasing a voucher, as vouchers may only be suitable for clients who already have an appointment booked or an approved tattoo idea.

Gift vouchers are not redeemable for cash and are non-refundable.

Is there parking or accessibility information I should know?

Please check your appointment information before arriving, as any parking, entry or accessibility details will be provided by your artist if needed.

If you have accessibility needs or anything that may help make your appointment more comfortable, please let your artist know before your session.
